After graduating from the University of Virginia in May of 2017, I moved to the United Kingdom to pursue a collaborative research project between the University of Cambridge MRC Cancer Unit and Department of Engineering on a Whitaker International Fellowship. The aim of this collaboration was to develop a tractable ex vivo system to examine immune and stromal transformation in tumor-draining lymph nodes. Through this experience, I collaborated with researchers of varied nationalities and backgrounds that broadened my scientific outlook and improved my ability to communicate with diverse audiences. Moreover, I had opportunities to attend conferences and travel throughout continental Europe—and I even acquired a taste for a nice cup of tea along the way.
